SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPISTS

Helping Speech and Language Therapists build a fulfilling career with confidence and clarity

Kezia Lawson - Speech Therapist, Life Coach. Supervisor - TalkCoach

Welcome! I’m Kezia, and my passion is empowering Speech and Language Therapists like you to grow your confidence and clinical skills whilst creating a sustainable working life you truly enjoy - without burnout.

Whether you’re new to private practice, rethinking the next steps in your career or looking for clinical support with an adult caseload, I’d love to support you.

I offer a supportive, coaching-led approach to supervision, to help you grow with clarity, confidence, and purpose.

Alongside having worked as a Speech and Language Therapist since 2011, I'm also a qualified Life Coach.

My supervision approach uses my coaching skills, helping you reflect, grow, and stay aligned with your values.

I’m especially passionate about helping Speech and Language Therapists create a balanced, sustainable working life - one where you can thrive in your career, continue providing exceptional care to your clients whilst enjoying what you do.

What you can expect through working with me…

A collaborative space for reflection

I provide a calm, supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to grow.

I won’t give you all the answers, but I’ll ask thoughtful questions and offer guidance when helpful, helping you build clarity and confidence in your decisions.

Together, we’ll explore your goals, identify challenges, and stay connected to what matters most in your work and life.

An approach that’s tailored to your needs

I recognise that everyone's supervision needs are different. Whether you're working through clinical questions, mindset challenges, or making decisions relating to running your private practice , I adjust my approach to match where you're at.

Our sessions balance space for reflection with practical strategies, giving you both the freedom to explore and the tools to take meaningful action. At the start of each session, we’ll discuss your focus and agree on the support that feels most helpful in the moment.

Values-driven personal and professional growth

I believe professional growth should feel purposeful and sustainable. In our sessions, we’ll focus on what truly matters to you—staying grounded in your core values while creating a working life that feels both fulfilling and manageable.

This might involve clarifying your priorities, setting healthier boundaries, or reconnecting with the reasons you chose this career.

The goal is to help you grow professionally while maintaining balance, integrity, and self-compassion.

Clarity without overwhelm

It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed by the demands of working with complex clients alongside running a private practice - let alone whilst juggling other commitments like parenting.

I’m here to help you step back, untangle the overwhelm, and find a clearer path forward. Together, we’ll explore strategies that support both professional development and your wellbeing, so you can grow with confidence while avoiding the patterns of overwork and burnout.

Supervision should feel like a positive, empowering space where you leave feeling lighter, clearer and excited to take action.

Meet your Supervisor

Kezia Lawson

My experience as a Speech and Language Therapist

I have worked as a Speech and Language Therapist in a variety of adult clinical settings since qualifying from the University of Sheffield in 2011. This has included community, inpatient rehabilitation and acute hospitals. I worked in four NHS teams before moving into independent practice in 2021.

My most recent NHS role was as Team Lead of a general adult community team. I have supervised many Band 5, 6 and 7 Speech and Language Therapists within these settings.

In 2021 I worked as a Visiting Clinical Tutor/Lecturer at City, University of London. This role included a supervisory role to students who were developing their clinical skills.

I now run my own private practice, working closely with a small team of Associate SLTs.

My Coaching Experience

I completed a diploma in Transformational Life Coaching with Animas Centre for Coaching which strongly influences my approach to supervision. I have also completed various supervision courses independently (intandem 1, 2 & 3) and within the workplace, including relevant modules of a Team Leader Apprenticeship.

I have also completed many additional courses and workshops and additional reading to develop my coaching skills and knowledge of psychological approaches, particularly in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and also Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP).

I am also committed to receiving regular supervision and coaching myself, which I find crucial to support my wellbeing, confidence and sense of direction in my work.

CLIENT REVIEWS

  • I have been working with Kezia for two sessions now and she has made a big difference to my wellbeing both personally and professionally. She excels in reflective listening, and has a gift in her ability to summarise, which helps me to see things more clearly, and to feel properly heard. Her skill in asking just the right question helps me to find the answers myself. As a Speech Therapy supervisor, she is generous with her clinical experience and ideas to help me develop my own. Thank you, Kezia, I feel richer for working with you.

  • I first contacted Kezia when I decided to take on some adult clients and I needed some extra supervision. Kezia is a natural teacher whose experience allows her to provide ideas, explanations and examples. I learnt so much during my supervision and Kezia encouraged me to feel empowered and confident to work with my caseload. Her friendly yet professional demeanour means she is so approachable and never made me feel silly when I asked basic questions! I thoroughly recommend her as a supervisor, and I will be using her again in the future.

  • Kezia helped me to make sense of my thoughts and understand the root of what was really holding me back in my business. Thanks to her I was able to change my perception and finally find a way to move forward towards my goal. She has an incredible positive energy, I felt safe and welcome to dig deeper and share my most secluded thoughts. Thank you Kezia.

I wasn't really sure what I wanted to achieve but knew I needed to get a focus back in my life and strike a balance with my job, family and myself. Kezia is friendly and professional and so easy to talk to which really helped me to be honest with myself which in turn enabled her to support me with the tools I needed to help me move forward. I would highly recommend Kezia as a life coach and really look forward to continuing my journey with her..

Why Supervision Matters

Supervision is essential for all practicing Speech and Language Therapists as outlined by both the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

Regular supervision supports clinical competency, ethical practice, and professional well-being while ensuring you continue to meet professional standards.

Supervision benefits us as clinicians

HOW TO REDUCE OVERWHELM AND PREVENT BURNOUT AS A SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPIST RUNNING YOUR OWN PRIVATE PRACTICE

I’ve learnt from my own experience and from speaking to other Speech and Language Therapists in supervision that it can be a real challenge to run a business and serve our clients whilst looking after ourselves.

I strongly believe that to effectively serve our clients, it’s crucial to take care of ourselves and develop our businesses in a way that fits in with our lives.

I wrote a blog post aiming to provide practical insights from my experiences, which may be particularly beneficial if you’re new to private practice, considering taking the leap into independent work, or experiencing mounting pressure in your independent practice.

What's the Difference Between Supervision, Coaching, Business Coaching and Mentoring?

Supervision is a formal, professional space for reflection, support, and development. Supervision focuses on both professional and personal growth while ensuring safe and effective practice.

Business Coaching focuses on supporting you to build a sustainable and fulfilling practice, exploring areas like values-based decision making, structuring your services effectively and identifying appropriate boundaries to support your wellbeing.

Within these services, both a coaching approach and a mentoring approach can be used based on your needs:

  • Coaching is a non-directive approach focused on empowering you to find your own answers through reflection and exploration. Coaching supports clarity, mindset shifts, and personal growth.

  • Mentoring is a more directive form of support where experienced guidance is provided for specific challenges or professional development goals.

As both an experienced SLT and a trained coach, I bring a unique blend of clinical expertise and coaching skills.

This flexibility allows me to adapt my supervision style - whether you need space for reflective exploration, practical strategies, or a combination of both.

While these approaches can be described separately, in practice, there is a big overlap. The focus is less about defining the service and more about ensuring you feel supported, empowered, and equipped to move forward in the areas most important to you.

My focus is always on balancing thoughtful reflection with actionable guidance while keeping your goals and values central to our work together.

HOW WE CAN WORK TOGETHER

I offer a range of flexible options to support your professional development, whether you're seeking occasional reflection, structured growth, or flexible ongoing support.

*New for 2025!*

Flexible, ongoing asynchronous support through voice notes, text, or email.

This model provides a safe and supportive space to explore challenges without the pressure of a full session, offering tailored guidance and accountability when you need it most.

This could be a great fit if you have a busy schedule, find it hard to commit to live sessions, or want responsive support to tackle challenges as they arise. This also could be ideal for neurodivergent SLTs, offering you the time and space to process and reflect at your own pace.

6-Session Package of Supervision/Coaching (£530)

Ideal for SLTs seeking more structure to professional or business growth, particularly if you're new to business or navigating career transitions or developing clinical skills with an adult caseload.

This package includes six sessions to be used over six months, combining reflective supervision with tailored life/business coaching, depending on your needs.

Bonus: Free access to my Intention-Setting Workshops during the six-month period.

1-to-1 Supervision/Coaching sessions (£90)

One-hour online sessions which can be booked as a one-off, regularly or on an ad hoc basis - depending if you need to work through a specific issue or are looking for regular support.

Perfect for focused discussions and professional reflection when you need space to explore challenges and ideas.

Not sure which option is right for you?

I recommend starting with a free introductory call (20 minutes) where we can discuss in more detail what you are looking for from a supervisor, find out whether we would be a good fit and discuss which service would be the best fit for you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Online sessions are mostly available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during school hours.

If this isn’t suitable for you, I do have some flexibility on timings.

Alternatively, my flexible voice note/text coaching may be a better fit to work around different schedules.

  • I can usually book an appointment within the next fortnight but I recommend you book ahead to ensure I have availability.

You can use the booking link here.

  • This is very dependent on your needs and what you are hoping to achieve through working together.

You may benefit from working with me for a short, defined period of time to work through specific challenges or goals.

You may wish to book sessions with me every 4-6 weeks, in line with RCSLT requirements for professional supervision, if you are not seeking any supervision elsewhere.

There’s no fixed contract (unless you pay upfront for a block of sessions) - you are free to book sessions as and when you need, with no obligation to come back at all!

  • Yes, I can offer clinical supervision with an adult caseload. My areas of clinical interest/specialism are:

    • Acquired neurology (i.e. stroke/brain injury) - particularly ‘higher level’ language or cognitive-communication disorders

    • Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)

    • Stammering/Cluttering

    • Social anxiety

    • Autism/ADHD

    • General communication confidence/anxiety

I have worked with a broad adult caseload since 2011 and can offer support in the following areas, though I would not be best suited for specialist supervision of more complex cases:

    • Voice/ENT

    • Head and neck cancer

    • Progressive neurological conditions

    • Dementia/PPA

    • Articulation disorders, lisp

    • Dysphagia

If you’re unsure whether my clinical supervision would be a good fit for your caseload, feel free to reach out and we can discuss your needs further.

  • Yes, I offer business coaching for Speech and Language Therapists looking to grow a sustainable, fulfilling practice.

My business coaching focuses on both the practical and mindset aspects of running a private practice or navigating career growth.

    This can include:

    • Clarifying your professional goals and values: Helping you build a practice aligned with what matters most to you.

    • Strategic support: Exploring topics like structuring your services, pricing, client communication, and balancing your caseload.

    • Mindset work: Identifying limiting beliefs, overcoming imposter feelings, and developing confidence in your decisions.

    • Preventing burnout: Supporting you to create a business that feels balanced and sustainable long term.

Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your existing practice, my approach blends reflective coaching and practical strategies to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.

Please note, Business Coaching works best in a longer package as we are limited in what can be achieved in a one-off session.

  • No, unfortunately I don’t offer competency sign-off for NQPs or Dysphagia, as I find this works less effectively over Zoom and when we’re not working in the same practice.

However, I can support you in developing your clinical skills with an adult caseload through reflective discussions, clinical reasoning support, and guidance on best practices.

  • Yes, if you are near Maidstone we can meet in person - I have clinic appointments available on Wednesdays.

  • Yes!

Sometimes NHS services have even funded supervision sessions with me - particularly if there are no suitable supervisors in-house.

In my last NHS role, I had very limited access to supervision and often felt unsupported. Looking back, I would have absolutely self-funded independent supervision had I realised it was an option.

If you're unsure whether external supervision would be right for you, feel free to reach out, and we can explore how I might be able to support you.

  • While I don't offer clinical supervision for paediatric cases, I do work with SLTs who specialise in working with children—particularly around broader areas such as running a sustainable private practice, managing workload, and preventing burnout.

If you're seeking support for your professional growth, business strategies, or balancing work and wellbeing, I’d be happy to help.

This can work well alongside seeking your clinical supervision elsewhere.
